Ambuyat

Ambuyat

This is what we call ambuyat...Strange name right??? But believe it or not,it is an unique food from Sabah..It's very famous among brunei people in Sabah. Just for an information, brunei is a name of one race that live in Sabah....

Now it's time for me to explain about this food... Ambuyat is a glue "porride"with sago starch. There is a unique way to eat this food..You must use a pair of chopstick cut from the rib of the sago palm to twirl it up into a sticky mass for dunk into a tasty sauce.Take a look on the upper right side.It looks
sticky right?? But the taste isn't
as sticky as it look...Eventhought it is brunei traditional food, but other races also can enjoy this food... For example, the murut or "hill people"living in Sabah's interior, make a substance similar to  Ambuyat, grating and washing the starch out of tapioca roots rather than the sago palm. Both boiled tapioca and sago starch are enjoyed on occasion by various kadazan dusun peoples, although rice-particularly hill rice grown on the slopes of the crocker range -remains the number one favourite..As it is delicious,Ambuyat also famous at Sarawak especially among melanau people. It is because they are like sago very much too.The Ambuyat is suitable as a snack,breakfast,tea-time or even supper. This special food can be find at our restaurant....
